So I am home for the weekend, should be a good time. Seeing some family and friends. More family seeing as most colleges don't give a 4 day President's Weekend. Anyway some exciting news, I will be going to my favorite city, Washington D.C., twice next month. First, I will be down there on March 14-18 for the United States Student Association LegCon, and then I will be down again a few days later March 24-26 for the Hillel Summit. Both should be fun and exciting, even if the conferences are boring I will be in Washington, D.C. Maybe I will go apartment hunting for a few years from now.

Anyway this weekend I will probably head into Manhatten, see some friends, maybe do some shopping, etc. Before heading back to Albany. It's officially one week till my birthday, I will be 20, how unexciting is that.

Next weekend I will be at SUNY Orange from Friday-Saturday for the SUNY Student Assembly Monthly Meeting, then back to Albany to party like its my birthday (but it will be my birthday), then Sunday the whole family, mom, dad, and brother are coming to Albany to spend the day.

Higher Education: Governors Press Conference

So yesterday I was fortunate to attend a press conference with Governor Eliot Spitzer (D-NY) in the Capitol. The meeting took place in the Red Room which is an absolutely amazing room. I sat first row center so I was able to get some amazing pictures. He spoke about the creation of an endowment fund to help fund the states public higher education system.

Big Purple Growl

So today is the Big Purple Growl and Ferocious Feast a UAlbany tradition. The 11-year-old growl is now one of the most exciting and anticipated sports events in the Capital Region, with attendance more than doubling, from 2,000 in its first two years to capacity crowds of more than 4,500 in 2006 and 2007.

This year I am lucky to be attending both the game and the feast, as my friends and I will be photographed for the UAlbany website. Hopefully I will be able to post some pictures later.

BBYO: My 2 Cents for Change

So back in the day, really like 2 years ago at this point I was a member of the Bnai Brith Youth Organization (BBYO), the largest Jewish youth movement in the world. I credit BBYO for giving me my foundation for all that I have achieved today, and all that I am able to continue accomplishing. That being said I check out their national website from time to time and today I saw a new website launched, My 2 Cents for Change. Basically its a place for those ineligible to vote, to voice their opinion on serious issues. Things like this is what get young people future leaders started, so I wanted to salute BBYO for their efforts. Here is BBYO's article about the new site.

So this week classes started and things are already crazy. Tonight I spent close to 4 hours reading about the war in Iraq, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the President, and Enviromental Systems. All in all, I am working extremely hard in class which is important.

In other news SAIPAC, the SUNY Albany Israel Public Affairs Committee is off to a great start this semester. We are working on our three initiatives, Israel @ 60, Iran, and Campaign '08.

Next comes SUNY Student Assembly, I have been appointed to be the Legislative Affairs Director which is the Chief Lobbyist for student body across New York state. Today in my official capacity I was called to testify on the preliminary report of the New York State Commission on Higher Education. It was an epic moment in my life, I was doing something at 19 that some dream to do. I spoke directly to members of the New York State Assembly and started a conversation that I hope will last.

Not often will I commend a member of the old school media, however I have to say that CNN's has clearly stood above the rest in terms of election coverage. I have always loved the Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, but they offer impeccable coverage. On TV they have people analyzing everything, in a surprisingly non-bias manner. Online they offer coverage of every campaign headquarters. I looked through others and no one offered coverage like this. Also the video quality was amazing for online video.

Politico.com pulls a close second with James Kotecki (of Playbook TV) streaming live from New Hampshire, and a poll widget that updated automatically. But with out having live coverage in other areas viewers need to tune in some place else.

I hope this amazing coverage continues through to election day. Maybe if CNN does their BLOG PARTY in DC again for the election I will be there!!!

I wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate him as well as to urge any undecided Republican or independent voters to support him. I believe he is best to lead our country in these trying times. Politics and Facebook

So I still don't see how well facebook interacted with the ABC debates on Saturday night, however facebook has become a hot bed for political awareness. Note I did not say activism because joining a facebook group (i.e. 1 Million Strong for Colbert) is not like the activism of the 1960's. I am not trying to sound cynical but the decision makers in Washington are not logging on as they consider their vote on the genocide in Darfur, or the apparent nuclear threat from Iran.

DON'T stop joining these groups because its is a great way to network with others involved in the cause. However after joining if you really want to make a change, you need to stand up and say something.

Now I did find some interesting research on InsideFacebook.com a blog that tracks whats happening on facebook. They performed a study on the spread of facebook in terms of political parties. FYI: Washington, D.C. has the highest number of registered users!

I want to be friends with Mark Zuckerberg

So many of my friends see me has being obsesses with Facebook, which I don't disagree with. I put everything on facebook, political points of view, notes, photos, music I am listening to, what I am doing, and so much more. That being said I really want to be Mark Zuckerberg's friend,he is the creator of Facebook. Now I don't want to be his friend just to be friends with him like Tom on MySpace. I want to be his friend to thank him for his creation and to tell him that it truly has changed the way people interact, and as more people sign up (2 million per week), it will continue to alter our communication.

Israel and Washington, DC

I have to say that I had an amazing past 2 weeks. Lets start in Israel, where I met with members of Knesset (Israels Parliament), Yael Dyyan (the Deputy Mayor of Tel Aviv), Steve Irlinger (the NYT Jerusalem Bureau Chief), and Miri Eisen (former Spokeswomen for PM Ehud Olmert). The trip had just over 40 participants so when meeting with all of these people I really had an opportunity to pick their brains.

Then I went to Washington, DC where I was joined by an excited University at Albany delegation. In Washington we were really educated on how to further the pro-Israel movement on campus, through three initiatives; Israel @ 60, Iran Mobilization, and Campaign '08. The highlight was the day of the Iowa Caucus where President Bill Clinton's former advisor Paul Begala and former RNC Chairman Ken Melman addressed the 330 students activists on the election. The only thing the two were able to agree on was the fact that the U.S.-Israel alliance is important for the United States foreign policy.

All and all the past 2 weeks have been very exciting, I am looking forward to relaxing for the next 2 before jumping back into school.

Well I am back from Israel and it was amazing. I heard from some great speakers and learned a lot of stuff that was presented in an off the record fashion. That being said I can't discuss particulars of what people said, but I can tell you that the experience will last with me forever.

I had the opportunity to meet with members of the Jerusalem Bomb Squad and got to see the Robot they use in sticky situations. I also had the chance to meet with Miri Eisen the former Spokeswomen for Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

The highlight of the trip for me was visiting the Knesset. It was great to see the facility and to gain an understanding of a different political system. I met with the youngest member of the Knesset, as well as several high profile Knesset staffers.

The trip was truly amazing and I can't wait to be in Washington, D.C. tomorrow!!

I ate lunch today at Stand, a restraunt in Union Square. All they sell is hamburgers and it was pretty awesome. I got try homemade ketchup for the first time, I usually hate ketchup but had to try it, and it was great. I had the classic burger and some french fries it was great. I think its a great place for lunch or dinner with friends.

So I was online looking for themes for tumblr/blogger, and I stumbled upon this site ShowYourself. Basically what it does is generates a widget for websites that will link to multitude of sites, the colors are customizable and everything. The widget looks great, I just replaced the random profile images (facebook, linkedin, etc) with this I think it looks awesome. My twitter updates will remain.

It's the latest celebrity craze since adopting African babies - an Israeli bodyguard with training from the Israel Defense Forces.

Recently, Lohan unveiled her new bodyguard - an unnamed ex-Israeli Army specialist. Kevin Federline's lawyer hired IDF-trained Aaron Cohen, founder of the Beverly Hills-based IMS Security, to serve Britney Spears' camp with subpoenas for their custody battle. Even that dubious friend to the Jews, Mel Gibson, has relied on one to part the waters for him. For more than a decade, Avi Korein was Gibson's personal bodyguard before he opened his own Beverly Hills security firm, Screen International Security Services.

So what's the allure of these Israeli security mavens? According to industry experts, it's a combination of discretion and training.

"There's a mystique surrounding the Israeli military, based on their past performance and handling of information," says an American IDF-trained security specialist in the Washington, DC area who gives his name solely as "Josh" for security purposes. Josh served in the Israeli infantry as a designated marksman from 2004-6 through Mahal 2000, a preparatory program for non-Israelis who want to serve in its army.

"Discretion at all times is paramount with Israelis in regards to operational and personal security," he told ISRAEL21c.

"In America, particularly in the celebrity scene, there are occasional leaks of personal information," he adds. "But it doesn't happen as much in Israel. Privacy is of great concern. That attitude and conditioning translates to the private security field. Bodyguards revealing secrets about celebrity clients is considered unprofessional and in poor taste."

While celebrities might favor their ability to check wagging tongues, security firm CEOs seek out ex-Israeli military members for their training - particularly when it comes to high-alert situations.

"The Israeli intelligence gathering is among the best. I don't have to train them as much" as people from other backgrounds, says Emiel Fisher, the CEO of RDP Worldwide in Richmond, Virginia, who has handled security for touring rock stars. "They garner a lot of respect from the private security industry."

Elijah Shaw, CEO of Icon Services Corporation in St. Paul, Minnesota, once hired an ex-Israeli commando to guard a famous actress who was being stalked on an international tour.

"I've used members of the Israel Special Forces - its equivalent of the Navy Seals - when I've had a specific, high-level threat," says Shaw, whose clients include Naomi Campbell, Michael Bolton and 50 Cent. "They operate at such a heightened sense of awareness. Because of the constant conflicts there, they're always on alert; they never switch off."

IDF-trained security specialists often see more similarities than differences between guarding celebrities and countries.

"Stalking is a form of terror," counter-terrorism expert Aaron Cohen told The Forward in October. "The formula is a lot like counter-terrorism, because you need to see who you're dealing with before you freak out."

Cohen is a Beverly Hills native who served in the elite Israeli combat unit Duvdevan, which specialized in tracking terrorists. He founded IMS - Israeli Military Specialists - a Los Angeles-based private security firm operating in Hollywood.

"The same security principles apply whether a person is going out to dinner or out of the country," adds 'Josh'. "Counter-surveillance is employed as a protective tool. The things that affect a client is not necessarily terrorism. The idea is to protect a client against harm or embarrassment. We focus a great deal on behavioral profiling - how to assess threats through situational awareness - for example, body language exhibited by one member of a group that contrasts the others can indicate the individual has a different agenda or intent. You take in everything and ID what doesn't belong."

With personal screening like that, it's no wonder that Hollywood's elite are putting their trust in this new breed of Israeli commando.

A friend of mine sent me this cartoon, via facebook. The title is "blogs become even less useful." I have to disagree blogging, and the integration of all of ones online activity is amazing. The fact that I am able to set up a site in which I can tell people what I am doing (via twitter), what I am listening to (via last.fm), what I am reading (via del.ic.ious), where I have worked (via linkedin), who I am (via facebook), and what I have seen (via flickr), is incredible.

Years ago if a person wanted to know any of this you'd have to ask, now if a friend is like hey I wonder what he's up to, its easy to find out. Don't get me wrong conversations with people are equally important but I think conversing with one another and technology must meet and work together.

So its 6:13 AM and I am up studying for my last final of the semester. This semester went by so quickly. Anyway I am so excited to be heading home later this morning, this week at home should be pretty awesome, seeing friend and family, then Sunday off to Israel.

So this weekend I was home for about 18 hours, cause I lost my car keys, then I took the train back to Albany just before the snow began to fall again. Now its just about 3 am, and I have a busy 3 weeks ahead of me. Here's the update for those of you that don't know yet.

Tuesday @12 PM, I will be leaving Albany, NY for Winter break, I will be home for 4 days then its off to Israel on December 23 @ 3 PM. I will be in Israel with my good friend Brian, and a group of other people on AIPAC, Advanced Advocacy Mission to Israel, I will have my laptop and will blog when I can. I return to the states at 4:45 AM on December 31, just in time for New Years. On New Years Day, I am traveling down to Washington, D.C. with a bunch of cool people (Brian, Kim, Mike, and Joey) for AIPACs Saban Conference. I am back home from January 4-22, then back in Albany for the spring semester.

So a busy few weeks ahead of me, but I am very excited. Expect lots of blogging from home, Isreal, and Washington, and lots of pictures on flickr and facebook!

So I don't know how many of you know about the constant troubles I have been having with my MacBook Pro. Let me tell you Apple Care has indeed payed for itself. They replaced the Airport Card, Logic Board (mother board), Left I/O Board, and the Optical Drive. Then it still didn't work and they gave me a BRAND NEW COMPUTER.

So I got a test tomorrow in State and Local governments on the three branches of state governments, should not be to difficult. This weekend should be fun, the Albany Men's Basketball Home Opener is Saturday night.

On top of that not much, so excited to head home Tuesday for the Thanksgiving holiday. I am thinking that after Thanksgiving I will take up blogging at my old site, Informed Students. Who knows?

Library Day!!!

Getting ready to go spend the afternoon at the University Library, to write a paper that I have needed to work on ALL week. It's on the New York City Council, shouldn't be that hard, right?!? Any way I will be there for much of the afternoon, and then probably hit the mall or something tonight.

This week was pretty cool, felt like it last a month. Monday, AIPAC staff came to campus to meet with me and other student leaders. It went great, the rest of the week wad filled with school work and Student Association stuff. Next week looks like it will be the same, only one test in State and Local Governments.

Great Weekend...

    It's Sunday, and I have had an awesome weekend. It all started late Thursday night, when I found out that I was accepted on a trip to Israel, the Advanced Advocacy Mission with AIPAC. Friday had an awesome ride to Binghamton, NY for the SUNY Student Assembly conference, where I was a voting delegate. 2 days with a ton of student government kids, lets just say I was in my element.
    Today, when I got back from Binghamton, I went to Panera Bread and the mall. Checked out Leopard and fell in love, probably going to buy it by the weekend. Also played with an iPod touch (updated my facebook status from it), and all I can say is it is probably the best media player out there. I really want one before I go to Israel/DC in December/January. Will see how that goes!
    Anyway this week not to busy lots of school work so that means time in the library, trust me I will post while I am there!

Not a lot has gone on this week. I was elected Vice Chair of the SA Board of Finance, last night. Also I got an invite to Winter Saban, a political training conference by AIPAC. This weekend I will be in Binghamton, NY for the SUNY Student Assembly, fall conference. Should be a good time, expect pictures on Flickr!

I don't know about you but I think it is kind of absurd, that iTunes has already introduced its holiday line (green, red, and blue) iTunes gift cards. They are on the shelves of Target. Maybe I am crazy! You tell me, why don't we just have christmas items and shops open year round, soon they'll be opening in February!!!

So most of you know me, and know that I am totally obsessed with Facebook, in reality its more like I am obsessed with Web 2.0 . Flock a new browser allows me to do everything 2.0 so much easier. It has a side profile bar, that tabs all of my profiles, delicious, facebook, flickr, twitter, etc. and media stream across the top, that allows me to see my latest pictures online. The best thing is the built in connection to my blog. If you have a chance download it and test drive it, cause its pretty insane. Check out these screenshots.

So today I spent 5 hours in my mobile office Starbucks in Stuyvesant Plaza. 5 hours + 3 lattes = Great study session. But in all seriousness its my favorite place to study, although it costs me almost $15 everytime. I wish they just gave away internet rather than the T-Mobile HotSpot program, probably signing up for that soon anyway.

Tonight SA Senate meeting, I am being confirmed for the Board of Finance. Then its off to the library to study for my International Organizations midterm.

Once you get through Wednesday the week is over!

This week so far has been pretty simple, went to Apple yesterday and they order me parts (APPLE CARE SO WORTH IT), and went to the tailor to get some pants hemmed, etc. Nothing really major going on this week. Working on a bunch of SAIPAC stuff, and doing a few things for the Student Association.

This is my first slow week in about 3, next week shouldn't be bad either. I will be traveling to Binghamton, NY for SUNY Student Assembly, on the 26. I should also find out if I was accepted for the Advanced Advocacy Mission to Israel in the next two weeks, I think its exciting.

Time to study, yes it is 8:15 am, Check me out on last.fm, and see what I am listening to!!!

Like the title says it has been a crazy week, with plenty of papers, tests, and 15+ hour days. Luckily tomorrow its all over, and homecoming weekend is upon us. My parents will be in Albany for the weekend, tomorrow is the Alumni Luncheon. Then Saturday is VH1 Best Week Ever Live, and the football game. Sunday is the SA brunch.

Should be an awesome weekend!

So, I have been thinking a lot this week about different things. I realized how much I missed certain things. Israel is one of those things. Fortunately I am hopefully going back to Israel over winter break, on an Advocacy Mission with AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee). I am really excited and hopefully this will be an amazing 3rd trip to Israel, each one has been different.

The first time I was there I went with BBYO on the March of the Living. I spent a week in Poland visiting the concentration camps prior to flying to Israel, which was probably the most uplifting experience of my life.

The second time was on Birthright with SUNY Albany, which was insane because it was a trip sending me back home. Not to mention I made some amazing friends.

Now, hopefully for a third time to do what I want to do for the rest of my life and that is advocate on Israels behalf through lobbying.

So I lead a busy life for a 19 year old, I am a student, a blogger, a PR Director, I read lots of news, I am on Facebook a lot, and not to mention I have a social life. So I am online reading one of my favorite new websites, shoutingmat.ch, and I find this article, Simple Living Simplified: 10 Things You Can do to Simplify Your Life. This article list things one should do to simplify daily life. I found it interesting and I am starting with 7 and 8, cleaning up my desk and cleaning out my e-mail inbox. Not only do I think this is ridiculous, but this person is crazy. Every human being should know the way technology evolves. A friend of mine bought an iBook less than 3 months later the MacBooks came out maybe she should sue. Technology will always continue evolving at a fast pace, people must be prepared to deal with losses or don't buy into the new technology the day or week it comes out.

The fact that Facebook is growing so fast amazes me, because I believe that one day every American from Media tycoons, to middle school students will have it. That means that this Facebook is the evolution of human communication.

So I have been using Twitter, a micro blog site for the past couple of months and I have to say its probably one of the most addicting things. Especially if you have unlimited texts.

Basically it asks you one thing "What are you doing?" Sort of like your Facebook status, except you accumulate followers (friends). The sick part is you can update from a variety of place, through an application on Facebook, from your Mac Dashboard, through text messages, and more!

I was watching Glenn Beck last night on CNN and Ed Koch the former Mayor of NY was a guest on the show discussing the subject of the Iranian President visiting the U.S., in particular New York City.

Koch said that by law he would have to allow him to visit however the Presidents security would be made up of all Jews, like for Mayor LaGuardia did when German dignitaries visited the U.S. during WWII.

The New York Times reported this:

In 1938, as Nazis persecuted the Jews overseas, Mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia and Police Commissioner Lewis J. Valentine created a special police squad to protect visiting German officials and the German consul general in New York. It was led, not by accident, by Jews: Capt.
